Bian Ke did not go home immediately after leaving the villa. Instead, she rushed to the He family residence. She hugged her bag close to herself and was wary about anyone who wanted to approach her. She only relaxed after entering the He family’s house.
“Miss Bian Ke, why are you here?” Huo Gao was walking out of the kitchen with a bowl of medicine at the same moment and he was shocked when he saw Bian Ke standing at the door.
“I need to talk to Brother He!” Bian Ke said breathlessly.
“Miss Bian Ke, please take a seat in the living room. I’ll go upstairs and ask Mr. He to come down.” After saying that, Huo Gao walked towards the study on the upper floor.
He Ning was currently practicing calligraphy in the study. He wanted to get Qiao Mei to be by his side as soon as possible and he thought about this issue all the time. Every time the thought crossed his mind, he would feel frustrated. By chance, he had discovered that practicing calligraphy could calm his mind, so he would set aside two hours every afternoon to do that.
“Mr. He, that girl from the Bian family is here. She says that she has something urgent to tell you,” Huo Gao said as he put down the bowl of medicine.
“What urgent matter can she have? She doesn’t have the smarts to get into the Xia family’s inner circle. Do I have to go down and listen to her gossip about the Xia family?” He Ning asked without looking up.
“It looks like she has something in her bag. If you really don’t want to see her, I’ll go down and ask her to leave,” Huo Gao said.
He Ning put down the calligraphy brush and was about to walk out when Huo Gao stopped him. He pointed at the medicine and said, “Drink it before you go downstairs.”
He Ning stared at Huo Gao without saying anything. Huo Gao pulled over a chair and sat at the door. “You’ll definitely find all kinds of reasons not to drink it later. This medicine is not bitter, I’ve added sugar to it.”
He had spent more than 10 years with He Ning. Sometimes, He Ning was like a child who needed to be coaxed to eat his meals and his medicine.
“I don’t believe you.” He Ning picked up the bowl resignedly and drank it all in one gulp. His face was all scrunched up due to the bitterness and he quickly gulped down a few mouthfuls of water to recover himself.
Huo Gao nodded in satisfaction and moved the chair away to let He Ning go downstairs. Bian Ke looked at He Ning expectantly, but He Ning remained expressionless. He was actually quite disdainful about her presence.
“Did you come in through the main door just now?” He Ning asked.
“I… I’m sorry, Brother He. I was really too anxious…” Bian Ke said aggrievedly.
“Didn’t I tell you not to come again? Come to my house only after you’re married to Meng Yuan,” He Ning said.
Bian Ke immediately took out the box from her bag and said, “I have something important! This is my gift to you!”
“Gift? Are there any commemorative dates recently?” He Ning asked curiously.
He Ning never celebrated any festival or occasion, including his own birthday. He felt that such things were meaningless and made him feel very unfortunate. After all, his birthday was also his mother’s death anniversary.
