Xia Zhe knew that Jessica was up to something but he still entered the villa willingly. As long as she invited him to her house as a guest, he would go. After all, his target was in this villa.
“As expected of the man I like. You dare to come to my house after offending me! Aren’t you afraid that I’ll kill you!” Jessica sat on the sofa and said to Xia Zhe.
At this moment, more than 10 burly men appeared and surrounded Xia Zhe. He looked at Jessica and said, “I’m not afraid. I know you won’t kill me.”
The corners of Jessica’s lips curled up instinctively. To her, what Xia Zhe said was a sign of his trust in her and he was flirting with her. In reality, Xia Zhe had only looked at her expressionlessly. Everything else was just part of her imagination.
She cleared her throat and said, “Ahem, sit down. I think we should talk about the wedding.”
“I have already made it very clear the last time that I won’t marry you,” Xia Zhe said.
“No! Don’t even think about it! I’m famous here and overseas! Do you know how many pairs of eyes are staring at me! If you reject me, my hard work all these years will become a joke! My career will plummet! I must get married! Even if we don’t get married right away, we have to get engaged!” Jessica said agitatedly.
Xia Zhe did not answer Jessica and she slowly calmed down. She looked at him and said, “How about this, let’s get engaged first. I’ll give you two years. If you still don’t have any feelings for me after two years, then we’ll tell the outside world that we can’t get married because of some trivial issues. This way, we can also protect both our interests. What do you think?”
Being proposed to by a famous movie queen must be something that many men dreamed of. Any other man would have immediately agreed to Jessica’s request, but Xia Zhe was not “any other man”.
Xia Zhe rejected Jessica’s suggestion outright. If he faked an engagement with Jessica, Qiao Mei would really skin him alive, pull out his tendons and feed his flesh to the dogs.
“Is it because you still like that woman from back then… I think her name is Su Rui,” Jessica asked.
Xia Zhe thought that Jessica had found out about Qiao Mei and was so worried that he did not even dare to breathe loudly. When he heard the name Su Rui, he heaved a sigh of relief. This was the first time that he was glad he had indulged Su Rui’s behavior back then and made everyone think that they were together.
“If I don’t agree, are you going to lock me up?” Xia Zhe asked as he looked at the bodyguards around him.
“Yes, after you entered my house, I had already arranged for the media to wait outside the door. The engagement ceremony will be held in five days. At most, I’ll tell the outside world that you don’t like crowds and that we have only invited relatives to witness the engagement,” Jessica said.
“Give me a room and send me the newspapers on time every day. I also need a phone,” Xia Zhe said calmly.
“What do you need all these things for?” Jessica asked.
“I need to work. Since you won’t let me go, you have to let me do my work here. I have more than 100 people on my payroll. I can’t just leave my work unattended,” Xia Zhe said.
Jessica looked at Xia Zhe appreciatively. As expected of the man she liked, he was still thinking about his business even in his current state.
Jessica knew that she would not be able to convince Xia Zhe within a short period of time. It was useless to continue with this stalemate. She might as well give him what he wanted while letting him stay here for the time being. She would think about the rest later.
“Come with me.” Jessica led the way and brought him to her room. Xia Zhe walked straight to the next room and was about to open the door when Jessica shouted, “That’s Daniel’s room!”
“Then give me another room,” Xia Zhe said.
“You can just stay in my room,” Jessica said.
Xia Zhe rejected her silently, so Jessica had no choice but to find a guest room for Xia Zhe. She had a new long table and two phones placed inside the room for Xia Zhe.
Jessica sat with Xia Zhe every day because she wanted to keep an eye on him. She was afraid that he would send a message to the outside world to ask for help, but two days passed and he did not show any intention of asking for help. He did not even seem to have any intention of escaping.
Even then, she did not let down her guard. After all, Alan had said that Xia Zhe was a smart and cunning man who could very well make use of her to achieve his goals.
