Chapter 31

A day later, Sofia left the dinner earlier. Because of me. I convinced her to go and assured her I will do
the rest of the work. It's all for her birthday. We don't have much money but atleast I want to buy her a
cake.

Thinking of Xander, he hasn't visited me today. But I know he will visit me in a different. First, it was the
dinner and then the kitchen. Today it could be any place. But I hope it shouldn't be my home. I'm not
living alone.

Anyways, I have reached the cake shop at 8:00 pm. I have to select something to buy for her. If I have
more money, I won't look for something less costly.

I entered the shop, looking everywhere for some minutes but nothing is under my budget. I don't feel
like this is going to work. When did I become incapable of buying Cake?

I explored the same shop over and over again while the other customers already bought and left. But
then something caught my eyes. A cake that I cannot buy in this life. A wedding cake. It has four layers.
It's a mixture of white and pink. The one combination I have always loved. I admired it inside the glass.
What am I doing here? I can't even buy a cheap cake but I'm looking at expensive ones. Even the
decorations look so complicated. I have to leave but my feet aren't moving.

" Do you like this? We can buy this for our wedding in future?" I almost lost my balance when I heard a
familiar. The one voice I always love to hear. Am I dreaming or Xander follows me everywhere?

" What? What are you doing here? Why are you following me?" I whispered silently without disturbing
the other customers.

" You have been looking at the cake for a long time. We can buy this for us if you want it. After selecting
the cake, we can choose our wedding dress and.."



" Stop it. Why are you planning something impossible? I don't know if you forget or not but I remember
one thing. You are getting married to Veronica in two days. Just two days." I told him angrily. But then I
regretting it. I shouldn't have said it. He doesn't want the wedding to happen.

Xander had a hurt look on his face. He just took a moment of silence before talking again.

" I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that."

" It's okay. You are telling the truth. My parents already prepared for the wedding staying stubborn.
Even after knowing my state, they are still wanted to do what they want. On the other side, Veronica
hasn't given up yet. She calls me every day and visits me trying to make me love her. It isn't easy.
She's literally stressing me, annoying me. If she really loves me, she would have had the heart to let go
but she doesn't." Xander explained, leaning on the wall.

" She's not ready to give up on you because you both have been together for many years. It won't be
that easy, Xander. What are you planning to do?"

" Me? I'm planning to change your mind and cancel the wedding officially. But you aren't cooperating
with my plan."

" Okay. This is not the place to talk about this. Let's go outside," I grabbed his arms and when I took the
first step, the owner of the cake shop spoke to us.

" Are you looking for a wedding cake? I will help you choose the perfect one." He insisted to help. I'm
not the one who's going to marry him. We are not couples. I planned to say it but Xander spoke first.

" Yeah, show us the most expensive ones. We are planning to buy from your shop," He wrapped his
arm around me and telling a lie.



" I'm glad that you choose my shop. I will make sure you will be satisfied with the selection. Follow me,"
He said, taking us inside another room.

" We are not couples. Why are you faking it, Xander?" I whispered.

" We will be married one day. I'm preparing for it in advance," He kissed my forehead and we followed
the owner. No. Now, I can't tell the truth to the owner. I should go with this lie.

The owner showed a lot of cakes according to our interest. At last, we choose one.

" I went with your lie. Now, let's go out,"

" We can't disappoint the owner. Let's buy it,"

" We can buy it and where can we keep it. You are buying a wedding cake without a wedding. Give
your number to the owner and assure him that we will buy from him soon. And now I'm out," I told him
and left the room. He did what I said and followed me outside the shop.

" I'm not a short-tempered person but you are testing my patience, Madison. I don't know what
happened in the past but you are worrying that I will hate you. That seems so silly. I won't do that to
you."

" You don't know that. Now, you are a person with fresh new memories. What will happen when you got
your memories back? All memories are going to collide and you might hate me again and go back to
Veronica. If that happens, I can't live with it. I'm just being cautious. You don't know how hard I'm trying
to avoid you?"

" Then, don't. Don't avoid me. I will never hate you. I promise you. We can start something new. Even if
you hurt me in the past, I will forgive you. Tell me what happened years ago which make me hate you.



We can get over it right now." He looked right through my eyes, with his hands on either side of my
face.

" I don't want to talk about it. The past is not the only issue. Your parents will hate you for doing this.
And you are planning to cancel a wedding which you desperately wanted before the accident. I don't
want to be a person who sabotages it." I stayed stubborn in my words. I'm doing this without wanting
to. I can't stay here a minute longer.

" Why are you being like this? I'm trying so hard to get you back. We can manage whatever problem
comes in our way. I'm giving you all the assurance. Why can't you agree?" He removed his hands and
stepped back. Finally, I have made him angry. Nice work, Madison. You won't be able to sleep today
because of what you did.

" It's getting late. I have to go. Bye, Xander," I avoided eye contact with him and started walking away
from him.

" You know what? I will marry her. Is that what you want?" No. No.

I stopped walking but didn't dare to face him.

" You don't want me. You should have told me directly. You are trying to get rid of me by telling me to
marry Veronica."

" No, that's not it. I love you," I turned and murmured. I'm not sure if he heard when I said 'I love you'

" If that's not true, then come back. Or I will marry her for real," He gave me a difficult choice. My head
and my heart are torturing me.

My head is telling me not to take a single step towards him. My heart is telling me to run right into his
arms.



" I'm sorry," I walked away with the word 'sorry'. I shouldn't have done it but now I can't take it back.
Xander didn't come after me. Now, I'm the person who messed up my life.
