Chapter 38

" That was an accident. I didn't mean to do it." Sofia simply said without much regret and sat next to
me.

" Why did you slip? She will make a big issue out of it," I whispered while Veronica is controlling herself
not to shout as it will disturb the others who are seeing the movie. That's a relief.

" I stepped our her stupid big heels. Not my fault. She should be apologizing too. I'm not fully
responsible for the stain." Sofia explained as Veronica heading out. She won't be coming back.

" You did a great job without knowing it," Henry appreciated her.

After the little drama and movie night out, I'm back in Xander's arms in his room. " What book did you
take, babe?" He asked and I showed him the book 'The Kiss of deception'.

" I already pre-planned it. Can we start?" I eagerly asked him while he turned the first page and read
the first sentence.

" Today was the day a thousand dreams would die and a single dream would be born," All I could think
right now is I'm lucky enough to get to read an amazing book and hear Xander's voice reading it. We
each take turns while reading. When it's my chance, he will listen to my voice.

" The first line captured my attention. We can get into his book the whole night if you are not feeling
sleeping," He asked, stroking my hair.

" I'm not sleepy at all."

Four days later:

Finally, the day arrived. I'm going to join Xander's company. But what time is it? I opened my eyes to
see the clock. Puff, I got two hours more to get ready. But where is Xander?

" You are awake. Did you slept well?" I heard Xander's voice. I turned to find him in a towel heading out
after a bath.

" Yeah, why didn't you wake me up?"

" You are sleeping peacefully. I don't want to wake you up," He said, walking towards me. He tilted my
chin to kiss me.

" You should know I haven't brushed yet. Kiss this pillow," I threw the pillow on his face playfully and
went inside the bathroom.

After an hour, I looked at my new suit and my ponytail. Henry is pick up Sofia for me. This is going to
be the first day in a new job for us.

" Is it weird that a CEO is taking an employee in his Lamborghini car to the office?" I asked him when I
settled in the car next to him.

" No. it's never been weird,"

" Maybe. I'm kinda nervous. Will I do well in the interview? What if I'm not fit for it?"

" You are talented, Madison. Plus, why are you even worrying? I can directly appoint you without an
interview. Since you are not interested in that, I'm doing it in this way."

" I want to go in a good way. So, you shouldn't try to do a single help for me in this." I told him again. By
the time, we reached the office, all eyes are on Xander. Oh, god, I wish I could have to take public



transport.

" What's wrong? Come on," Xander asked me while I'm not ready to leave the car.

" Nothing," I replied and got out. Everyone wishes good morning him as he walked by and some started
at me with a look I can't figure out. They would have thought Veronica is his girlfriend. She would have
been with him all the time. The sudden change might shock them. I didn't know how the days have
been when Xander and Veronica are working in the company and been in a relationship. Maybe I could
ask Henry about the days.

I sighed after Xander and I entered the lift.

" I haven't told you this, but all this attention freaks me out,"

" When I got discharged it freaks me out too but now everything seems alright. You will get used to it,
babe,"

" I wish I could. By the way, I can't take my eyes off you in this black suit. I wish I could kiss you," I let
the words out without second thought.

" Really? Go ahead, we are in the lift. Nobody's here," He said, waiting for me to make a move. I could
use the ten seconds before the door opens. My hands caught the corner of his suit and I tilted my head
to kiss him.

Xander grabbed my waist and pulled me into a deep kiss. I'm a little distracted that the door might open
at any minute. But I let myself relax for some seconds.

" That's enough till evening." I broke the kiss and found out we are about to reach the 4th floor. When I
lift opened, I went out as Xander pressed the floor to his office.



" All the best," He said as the lift closed. I will do my best in the interview just to work in Xander's
company. After some exploring I found Sofia. We both been anxious till we passed in the interview.
Everything happened so effortlessly because of Xander.

The only thing that wasn't to our expectation is Sofia has to work next to Veronica. Can't she work in
any other department?

" Are you really okay with this?" I asked Sofia who looked pretty confident.

" Yeah, Don't worry about me. What does she going to do to me?"

" But might feel alone with her by your side. If you have any doubt, we can't even ask her. She will be
mad at you for pouring the coke in the theatre,"

" It was an unexpected happening. I will say it is karma. Anyways, just be cool. I'm hundred percent
alright," Sofia consulted me in return as I walked to my computer. I got nothing to worry about because
Henry's next to me.

" Hey, are you okay with this job?" Henry asked me, turning away from his computer.

" More than okay. I'm only worried about Sofia. She ended up next to Veronica."

" She will deal with her. She has to. I haven't told you this. Before Xander's accident, most of the
employee in this department wished Veronica would leave the company,"

So, we are not the only one who hates her.

" What did she do? I thought everyone would like her. She was Xander's fiancée."

" But her attitude makes everyone hate her. Anyways, we are not here to gossip about here. You carry
on with your work. I will fill you in when the time comes," Henry said, getting back to his work.
