Jake echoed, “Exactly! You were the ones who gave birth to her! It’s one thing if she’s not grateful for
what you’ve done for her, but she doesn’t even try to acknowledge your existence. She’s a heartless
wench!”

Matthew frowned and stayed silent.

Jake said, “Here’s what I think, you two should go to her and tell her to pull some strings, help you two
form a connection with the Sagers. I’m sure she knows a lot of people. With her help, I’m sure the
status of your family will be greatly boosted and your wealth will grow exponentially before you know it.”

Matthew seemed intrigued by the idea, but his confidence was deflated when he recalled the way
Sherry had received them today.

Janine agreed. “I’ll go to see her in a few days. If she still refuses to acknowledge me as her mother,
she’ll get it from me!”

Julie drove back to the house by herself.
