A Sorry Story
"Who was so vicious?"
Nancy's expression changed.She reached out to hold Eliana's hand with a worried expression.
"Eliana, come here.Let me take a look.Did you get hurt?"
Eliana's heart softened as she walked to her and held her hand.
"Don't worry, Mrs.Moran.I'm fine."
Nancy's wrinkled hands were full of warmth.And Eliana was reluctant to let go.
At the sight of that, Evelynn's face turned livid with rage.She picked up the glass in front of her and took
a sip, trying to hide her angry look.
However, the glass only ended up making her face look more twisted.
"I cleaned up the black market.As for the people behind the scene who attempted to hurt Eliana, I will
make sure that none of them escape," Maurice said coldly with a hint of murderous intent in his tone.
The next second, a loud cracking sound of glass attracted everyone's attention.
The glass had slipped from Evelynn’s hand and fallen to the floor.
Looking at the broken glass, she panicked as though she had seen her end.
"Why are you so careless?" Melanie said before she signaled a waiter to clean up the mess.
At the same time, Nancy ordered the waiter to bring another set of tableware before she pulled Eliana
to Maurice's side.
"Come and sit here."
The smile on Eliana’s lips froze, and she knew that she would not be able to eat if she sat beside him.
Maurice sat on her left, and Evelynn would sit on her right.
Nancy didn't notice her discomfort at all and continued, "Eliana, you have suffered a lot, and
fortunately, you were back safe and sound.You can rest assured and hand over the investigation to
Maurice.He will definitely find out what happened."
Hearing that, Eliana had no choice but to nod with a smile.She glanced at the chair that was placed too
close to Maurice's and quietly moved to the other side.
But Maurice saw that.
He suddenly reached under the table and took her slender wrist to stop her.
"Are you that afraid of me?"
Eliana immediately pulled her hand away and retorted in a low voice, "Are you sure you can focus on
the food if you sit so close to me?"
Maurice remained silent.He then slid his palm down her hand, and entwined his fingers with hers
tightly.
Surprised, Eliana glared at him, but she was met with his deep gaze.
His eyes were like a vortex that was slowly sucking her in, and she could not look away.
Jealousy and fury rose in Evelynn’s heart like a soaring tide when she saw them looking at each other
lovingly.
Melanie was not happy either.
"Mrs.Moran, I don't understand.How could Evelynn be any inferior to Eliana?" she asked in a
displeased voice.
The dinner was actually supposed to be a trap for Eliana, but to their surprise, it became a platform for
Maurice and Eliana to show off their affection.
With a calm expression, Nancy replied lightly, "The girls can't be compared.It all depends on who is in
Maurice's heart."
"So, does that mean that Maurice has fallen in love with her?"
"Yeah.If Maurice hadn't chosen her, he wouldn't have brought her home."
Nancy looked at the bickering Eliana and Maurice with a warm smile.
Perhaps, even Maurice was not able to notice the fact that he had changed a lot ever since Eliana
appeared in his life again.
And Nancy knew him better than everyone else.Her grandson was in love...
"Alas..."
Nancy couldn't help but sigh.
"I'm very happy that Maurice has met a woman he likes."
Upon hearing those words, Melanie almost lost her composure.
Should Maurice abandon Evelynn just because he had met a woman he liked? Eliana looked at Nancy
while trying to get rid of Maurice's hand.
