Chapter 1278 Don't You Go Too Far

"You seem to understand something. Could it be that Emory had come here on a mission?"

Samuel frowned at Jarrod's words. He said, "I don't know what happened to him. All I have is your
word and the credibility is in question. What can I know? If you know Emory has an army here, then
you must know where he is. Tell me."

"What makes you think I'll tell you?"

Jarrod hated to see Samuel like this, so he felt a little annoyed.

Samuel said in a causal manner, "In your current state, do you think that I would let you off without
telling me?"

"What do you want?"

Jarrod became vigilant.

Samuel gave an evil smile and said, "You are weak and even my wife can subdue you. Do you think
you stand a chance?"

"Don't threaten me. I have help here. Do you forget about Amelia?"

Jarrod wasn't worried that Samuel would attack him. Samuel would have tried if he wanted to. And
even if he did try, Amelia would be able to stop them.

Samuel peered at Amelia who was pouring water outside and teased, "What's the matter? Is she your
woman? You wife?"

Jarrod paused for a moment. Gazing at Amelia's figure, he said, "No. She is my 18-year-old present
from my father."

Samuel was slightly stunned.

He knew what Jarrod meant.

In ancient times, when a man reached the age of eighteen, a woman would be given to him by an
elder. This woman would give the men sex education in person. Generally speaking, such a woman
was carefully selected by the elder. She was given to the men for two reasons — to relieve his
boredom and to monitor whether he behaved himself. Once the man did something very wrong, such
behavior would be reported to the elder immediately. In other words, she was the eye of the elders.

Samuel never thought that Aaron would control Jarrod in such an old-fashioned way.

"Was she with you when you were in the army?"

"Yes. Money talks. Bringing a woman into the military camp was a piece of cake."

Jarrod gave a self-mocking smile.

Only then did Samuel realize why Jarrod didn't say anything in front of Amelia.

"Why didn't you kill her?"

When some men had their own power, they would kill the woman and forge the scene to make it look
like an accident. In that case, they wouldn't be spied on by their elders.

For Jarrod, this was an easy task.

Jarrod answered, "Why should I kill Amelia? If I kill her, someone else will take her place. Also, I'm a
neat freak, and one woman is enough for me. I don't want to sleep with strange women."

Hearing these words, Nicole couldn't help glancing at Jarrod.

Samuel frowned and hugged Nicole tightly.

Nicole was a little surprised, and then she realized that he was probably jealous.

Seriously?

She only took a few glances at Jarrod!

Jarrod was also surprised. He smiled and said, "Don't worry. I'm not interested in your wife."

"If you were, you would be dead now."

The words made Nicole a little embarrassed.

She thought this was awkward.

"I'll go and see why it takes Amelia so long to find water. She wouldn't tip Aaron off, would she?"

Nicole rose to go when Jarrod said, "No. Amelia has been with me since she was eighteen. She's thirty
now. We've been together for twelve years. If she wanted to betray me, she would have done it long
ago. There's no need to wait until now."

"What?"

Nicole was somewhat puzzled.

However, Samuel said to Nicole, "Go and see if she needs help."

"Alright."

Understanding what Samuel meant, Nicole nodded and left.

When there were only Samuel and Jarrod, Samuel took out a cigarette from his pocket and handed it to
Jarrod.

Jarrod lit the cigarette and drew on it.

There were many ways to relieve pain, but some men liked nicotine the most.

Smoke clouded Jarrod's face, obscuring his expression.

Samuel whispered, "Do you want to let her go?"

"Yes. She's thirty. If she doesn't leave now, her life will be truly ruined. She'll have a wider world and a
better life if she leaves. I've held her back for twelve years. That's long enough, and I don't want to
make it longer."

As he spoke, Jarrod puffed at his cigarette. Then he started coughing violently; maybe it was because
he puffed too quickly.

Samuel couldn't bear to see it and patted Jarrod on his back. Jarrod took the opportunity to lie down on
his thigh.

"Don't you go too far."

Samuel frowned.

How could Jarrod behave like this?

Were they that close?

Jarrod waved his hand and said, "Don't be stingy. Have you forgotten why I'm like this now?"

Samuel was speechless, and didn't push Jarrod away.

Jarrod rested his head on Samuel's thigh and said in a low voice, "Help me to get Amelia out of here,
and I will help you find William."

Samuel was stunned.

"What are you talking about?"

Jarrod laughed charmingly.

He looked into Samuel's eyes and said, "Amelia is pregnant with my child. It's our fourth child."

"You have three children?"

"Unborn. My father wouldn't allow a so-called gift to give birth to his grandchild, so I never had the
chance to see my child. Amelia almost died of haemorrhage during the last abortion. The doctor said
that the chances of her getting pregnant were very little, and she might not get pregnant ever again.
That was why my father gave up on killing her. Now she is pregnant, but she doesn't know about it.
Samuel, Amelia is thirty. Most women have been mothers for years at this age. I don't want her to stay
here. Take her away and help her keep the baby, then I'll help you find William and investigate what
you want to find out."

Jarrod looked at Samuel. His eyes were moist and red.

Samuel felt anguish.

"If you love her, why don't you take her with you? You can give her the happiness she wants. Aaron
has no humanity, yet you still want to follow him to the death?"

"I can't leave. There is a child bug in my body and my father has the mother bug. So no matter how big
the world is, I'm stuck with him. I'm not afraid of death. I'm afraid that after I die, no one will protect

Amelia, let alone our child. I want to keep the child and make Amelia happy. Perhaps it's the only child
we'll ever have."

Jarrod said bitterly.

He had never said these to anyone.

Who would have thought that a father would poison his own son?

Even if he said it out loud, no one would believe him.

Samuel was shocked and grew angry.

Ever since Vincent's death, he had taken a dim view of kinship. Petty's betrayal made him disdained
kinship more. However, at this moment, he suddenly wanted to hug Jarrod.

Samuel suppressed the urge.

"Why didn't you tell Amelia?"

"If I tell her, she will know what I'm going to do. After all these years, she knows me better than I know
myself. If she was going to betray me, I wouldn't be able to live to this day. So please help me conceal
the fact that she's pregnant."

Jarrod looked at Samuel with a pleading look in his eyes.

Samuel frowned deeply.

"How can Amelia not know that she's pregnant?"

"Female killers usually take drugs to postpone their period during trainings and missions. I didn't want
her to suspect, so I swapped the drug. She had been taking vitamins instead. She assumed that her
postponed period was induced by drug, so she didn't realize that she was pregnant, but it wouldn't be a
secret for long. She will suffer pregnancy sickness."

This concerned Jarrod the most.

Samuel knew that Jarrod had no one to turn to.

"Didn't you have your own power? Can't you protect her?"

"My father's men have infiltrated into my organization. Ysabel's assassination of Fill was out of my
control and Fill was almost killed. Before I find out the agent in the organization, I dare not trust my
women and child to them. And the only person I can trust now is you."

Jarrod's gaze was so intense that Samuel could not refuse.

"Alright."

He knew he shouldn't have agreed.

They would have many things to do along the way, and there would be too many uncertainties and
dangers, but he still agreed.

Samuel never called Jarrod 'brother', but blood was thicker than water.

"Thank you."

After finishing speaking, Jarrod laughed. His smile was pure and dazzling. He leaned against Samuel's
thigh and whispered, "I'm sleepy. I'll rest for a while."

Then he really fell asleep.

He slept quiet peacefully, trusting Samuel with his own safety, as if they were brothers who had been
together for years.

This was what Nicole and Amelia saw when they returned.

Both Jarrod and Samuel were very handsome. Now the scene that one sat there with another lying on
his lap really made one's imagination go wild.

Amelia quickly walked over and Nicole followed. However, Amelia stopped just as she was about to
reach Jarrod.

"What's wrong?"

Nicole didn't pay attention and almost bumped into Amelia.

Amelia looked at Samuel with a sharp gaze. Then, a dagger shot out of her sleeve and went straight
towards Samuel.
